Lars Tunbjörk Photographer

Fabriken Bästekille has the great honor of presenting this summer's exhibition with photographer Lars Tunbjörk.

With around 300 images, this will be one of the largest exhibitions ever made of this world-renowned photographer who forever changed the way we see. The exhibition will feature never-before-seen images from our neighboring country Latvia, but also well-known projects such as "Landet utom si", "Home", "Office" Paris - fashion week" and much more.

He had his big breakthrough with the project "Landet utom sig" in 1993. Sweden had never been portrayed so brutally ugly and funny before. The Swedish people shopped at Gekås in Ullared and had fun at Skara sommarland, surrounded by a buzzing high summer feeling. Drenched in sweat and sunburnt, the people stood there in front of the lightning. Lars Tunbjörk shone a spotlight directly on their vulnerability.
All fields in the image were equally important, therefore they should also be evenly lit.
Heartless and condescending, some thought of the project. The photographer was perceived as a middle-class cynic from Stockholm who laughed at tasteless people in the countryside.
But if you look at the Sweden he shows and think that it is "us", not "them", in the pictures the feeling is different. Tunbjörk was not some cultured Stockholmer who laughed at the people - he was a guy from Borås who recognized himself. The Sweden he photographed was part of his own childhood memories.

The exhibition has come about through a collaboration between Fabriken, the Lars Tunbjörk foundation and Maud Nycander.
Johan Petterson will curate the exhibition.
