What exactly is graffiti, how can we understand it as an expression and its role in the city? Who is spraying and why are they doing it? Erik Hannerz is a sociologist and subculture researcher and has spent the last decade researching these issues. Join us on a journey around graffiti and street art in all its forms, about subcultural symbols, rules and rituals and the consequences it has for the practitioners as well as for society. Erik Hannerz is a senior lecturer at the Department of Sociology at Lund University. He completed his dissertation on subcultural theory at Uppsala University in 2013 and has since conducted research on graffiti, creativity within the city, and internet detectives.
